Bible Study - "Time of God"
Series: "Your TIME in HIStory" Pt. 1
Scientists agree that time has a beginning and our time is measured by hours, minutes, and seconds. As you read this, your time is continuing in the progress of existence and has already past, and is now and moving forward.
Throughout history, we can all remember our time in the past, individually and as collective humans. Many of you just had your birthdays, anniversaries; a time you first met your significant other, and a time when your loved ones past away. It is a good thing that I can remember my wife’s birthday and our anniversary. I had avoided World War III by remembering our past. If I do forget, I can always use the major stroke I had as an excuse. (Just kidding of course, but then maybe not).
Right now as a collective body, we can all know about World War I and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the civil unrest throughout the world. All of us study history and know the first president of the United States and the significant time of independence from Great Britain. July 4, 1776, the United States of America was founded and Americans celebrate and remember a very important moment in history.
Right now we are living in a historical moment. A time in which a disease has not only captivated our minds and absorbed our bodies to isolation, but took hostage of empires that once dominated countries to now taking over every aspect of our lives. We are in essence living out a personal story to remember and history being made in seconds, minutes, and hours. This virus by the minute is growing and deaths rising throughout the world. History is being made and time will tell its story.
To understand our current situation and consider life issues for our future, we have to look to the past and remember a key historical moment.
Over 3,500 hundred years ago, Moses led the Israelites from slavery to freedom. “This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord: throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast” (Exodus 12:14). Still to this very day, Jews and Christians throughout the globe remember and celebrate those who have been in bondage to slavery to be living in freedom.
This event is called the Passover. A mark in history for the liberation of Israel from slavery in Egypt. God made it clear for all to “Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery, for by a strong hand the Lord brought you out from this place. . .” (Exodus 13:3).
However, in such a time as this, many believers have forgotten and some even rejecting the idea that God can and will rescue His people. God is the God of HIStory and will determine the outcome because the same God that we know from the past is with us in the present and will be with us in the future “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
The same God we read in the Bible yesterday, is the same God we read in the Bible today. The same God we will read tomorrow; will be the same God in the future.
What am I saying?
We don’t know the future but God does. The Bible is the secret to our uncertain future. His truths hold solid from the past, now and future. His prophecy concerning our past has been accurate and is unpacking in front of our eyes. As we open the Bible, God's prophecies will unleash His truths from the past to our future and all will be done according to His time.
So, be at peace because the same God that saw us in our past and is with us now will still be with us tomorrow. This is an assurance from God for those who have received the Holy Spirit. Today is uncertain and so will tomorrow be, but our assurance in the Lord is what will hold us in such a time as this. The Bible was written in the past still holds its truth today and gives us hope and answers for our future.
No Man can give assurance of tomorrow for that is in the hands of the Lord. So rest assured of your faith in Christ and His eternity and HIStory. All good things will happen in His time.
The same God that has held you in the past, is holding you now and will hold you tomorrow. Allow God’s peace to reign over your hearts for God is certain of our future.
- So what is that you can remember about your past relationship with God that you can trust and put your hope in Him about your future?
- Do you have time? Would you consider writing down your goals with God to fulfill until the quarantine ends?
This is precious time you can have with God. Let’s not worry about tomorrow but allow God to take captive of your thoughts to Him, especially in such a time as this. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us that we are to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we TAKE CAPTIVE EVERY THOUGHT to make it obedient to Christ."
So, “Do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?” …Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own (Matthew 6:34).
May you grow in time with God and may your time with Him be a blessed quarantine.
From the song Great is Thy Faithfulness:
Pardon for sin and the peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine With ten thousand beside!
Great is Thy Faithfulness, Great is Thy Faithfulness!
